German at the workplace: The linguistic-communicative integration of refugees (completed in 12/2021)

Homepage of the project till 2023: dib.ids-mannheim.de

In collaboration with providers of training sessions for refugees, multiple field studies are being conducted to analyse the process of communicative competence acquisition; this competence is essential for successful professional communication at work and interpersonal integration into the work team. Partners of the project are: Universities in Southern Germany, the Agency for Employment Regensburg, as well as local partners from the economy and the vocational advancement services.

Apart from that, two language proficiency surveys are being conducted in integration courses of various German states in collaboration with the Goethe-Institute Mannheim. For this, the language proficiency and language biography of EU foreigners and other migrants are being elicited as a control group of the refugees arriving in Germany.

As part of this project, the IDS supports the training process of various refugees in training programs by regularly offering German lessons as well as assistance with administration-related concerns.
